I don't think that women don't understand offside.
People who don't like football don't understand it.
And of course most of these people are women.
However, one group of people who do not understand offside are the linesmen or "assistant referees". I believe that these people need to be introduced to the concept of parallax. i.e. the Law of Physics which states that someone nearer to you is NOT offside.

In fact the premiership actually has one woman who is an assistant referee - and I hope she knows the rule.

Incidentally - I know its pedantic but it doesn't have to be the goalkeeper, any two defenders between a player recieving a ball or otherwise "intefering with play" and the goal line at the moment the ball leaves the passer...except from a throw in. Is it any wonder that it causes so many arguments?
