h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I've stopped contributing to KUT. I miss a good quarter to a third of both ME and ATC because of the amount of local stories and features they programme. Like the day the Virgin spacecraft crashed. They were so busy talking something only of interest to a handful of people here in Austin they skipped three stories from Morning Edition, including that one about Virgin, so I spend a lot of time listening to other stations now, especially on Friday mornings when we don't get anything from NPR from 7.40am until 8.00.

The pledge drive might be over, but it isn't over. Every ten minutes (and for the next couple of weeks if previous drives are anything to go by) we get "KUT would like to thank the following businesses..." and then a rotating list of names.

They're not alone. I couldn't get the stream working this morning, something that happens occasionally and with a specific error message, so I went to KSTX... who are doing the same thing.

I prefer to stream KUT when I can, rather than listen to it with the wireless, because that way I can hit the MUTE button on the keyboard whenever I hear certain unpleasant voices, such as Ted Cruz, Rick Perry, John Boehner.

I was thinking the same thing listening to KUHF this morning.
