How much?

When my friends with the pub blew that emu egg it was hilarious. It's not easy, or pretty but yeah, it can be done.

Bet I could blow it... no problem
just double checked, the duck eggs I get from the nearer veg stall are £2.50 per half dozen... they're rahter good though... so seems cheap enough to me

I imagine they have to clean the inside too. It can't be easy to thoroughly clean all the schmutz from the inside of something as potentially fragile as an egg (although I'm sure the shells of ostrich and emu eggs are much thicker and stronger than a blackbird's), and get it in a fit state to be used as a lampshade.
£2.50 a half dozen? That's far cheaper than I reckon they'll be at the farm here, if their hen's eggs are $7 a dozen It really annoys me that foods and cuts of meat which used to be cheap, either because they're of third-rate quality or because they were considered only for poor people or pets, are suddenly expensive For instance. The thick-cut bacon I buy from time to time is about $5.99 a pound. You can also get packs of bacon offcuts which are just bits and pieces, like you could once get broken biscuits, and there's more fat than meat. How much? $5.50 a pound. A mere $0.49 cheaper And I needed some lard for a recipe recently. I asked if they had any and was taken to a shelf with some jars of the stuff - the regular jam jar size. Then I looked at the price... $18.

Lard - in a jar? Surely it comes in paper/foil packs like butter?

You can get it in packs like butter too, TC. In fact that's what I ended up buying, and $15 cheaper. But here's another thing. When I first bought lard here (to make my first , incidentally), I went looking for it where you'd expect - the refrigerated displays where they keep the butter, the milk, the yoghurt etc, but no, it was on a shelf in the Mexican food section of the supermarket. Despite being fat, animal fat, it doesn't need refrigerating. Highly processed, no doubt But at a far more realistic price
