If you were still in Blighty I'd suspect a financial motive to this terminology - there's more chance of you being taxed for an extra bedroom than for a castle or a new west wing.

Maybe, but the death duties on a castle will probably be bigger, not that there's anyone for the gubmint to lay them on, and I'll make sure all the stuff I want dispersed among my friends has left the estate well in advance
