Greetings fans, and welcome once again to John Peel wing-ding with me, your genial host, music-loving Johnny Plee spinning the wheels of steel. In case you missed tonight's football results it was Spurs 2, Liverpool 2. Not a bad game either. Plenty to be getting on with tonight so let's start, er, getting on, and there's no better way I can think of than this.

Last night, dear listener, the Sheena Easton Barmy Army showed up at the John Peel Roadshow and, in an affecting ceremony, tied a piece of string around my wrist. Apparently I'm not supposed to remove it until it rots and drops off.

While we're all pondering the significance of this here's Clint Eastwood and General Saint.

This next one's for Paddy and Davy and co, from Bev and Val of Belfast, and it's a record which is actually in the BBC charts and yet curiously enough my daytime chums don't seem to be playing it perhaps as much as they do some of the other records that are in the charts, but I live in hope that one of these days Timmy Bannockburn will play the thing. These are The Adverts, of course.

That was Artificial Piece and Outside Looking In, and because we like to keep a balance on these programmes this is Inside Looking out.

Those are The Animals from, oh, years and years and years ago, and that was called Inside Looking Out. That's what they pay me for, this clever kind of programming - Outside Looking In, Inside Looking Out.

I've got a letter purporting to be from Mitzi and Flick, of the Barbican in London EC2, and it says "Darling John, two nubile young nymphets who always listen to your programme whilst naked in the bath would be willing to show our appreciation at your convvenience or otherwise if you'd play the debut single of 999 cos they're the best band in the world." Well, what's the matter with you girls? Do you think I'm a pushover or something?

I'm not entirely sure having something that sounds like a bunch of old washing machine parts being dragged around in a sack named after you is entirely complimentary, but that's the Mad Professor and John Peel Dub.

God, I tried, but I couldn't do the full nineteen minutes of that one. smiley - laugh

I think I heard clangers doing backing vocals in there, though. smiley - cool

In the eastern Caribbean they're not really extensively into new wave rock yet, in fact the new thing there is something called cadoss, which is spelled like cadence but cadoss seems to be the way they pronounce it so there you are, and I'll be playing some cadoss records in subsequent programmes I shouldn't be at all surprised, and of course they still very much into steel bands there, at least they are for the benefit of tourists, and the locals seem to quite like them as well, and those are something we heard a lot of during the past couple of weeks, and make mine a Lisa special please.

That's for Bobby and Geoffrey and the rest of the party, the Diamond Steel Band from an LP called Pan Festival Saint Lucia 1977, and of course that's Strauss's Voices of Spring and yes, they do do Yellow Bird on the LP as well. And obviously quite a lot has happened during the last couple of weeks in the world of rockaboogie, in fact a lot of things seem to happen every two weeks in the world of rockaboogie, so there's a great pile of records for me to listen to and I shall be trying to sort them out during the next couple of days and as usual pick out the best ones for you to hear. Thanks though, I haven't opened any of my mail though, actually since I got back, I haven't had time for that, but I did get a message from Pete and all the good music lovers in Watford, and they say congratulations on having an extra hour for the programme, and er, I appreciate it at least as much you do, if not more. These are a band called The Table, and their debut single on Virgin, it's called Do the Standing Still.

Yet another tedious request from Edinburgh, this is for Jimmy, Kenty and Ramone, Kenny X Smith, and Alistair Lemmy Peetri Hay, or Petri Hay... no, Peetri Hay I would guess. These are The Lurkers. Remember them?

All our yesteryears, those lovebale Lurkers from way back when. I could be a real disc jockey y'know, I'm working well tonight. That's I Don't Need to Tell Her, and this is from Talisman who were heard, ooh, months and months ago on Richard Skinner's programme, he scoops us on everything these days. Wicked Dem.

From the LP A Warped Sense of Human on Peartree Records, of all wonderful things a Milton Keynes compilation LP, these are NA Pop 2000. Sounds like something you colour your hair with. This track is called So So.

Ah, the Nash Rambler, probably the ugliest car ever made, discounting the Austin Atlantic of course. That's Annette, and Jo-Jo the Dog-faced Boy.
