-Sorry, I just had to say it, you know?
Welcome to H2G2
My name's Bistroist and I'm one of the Guide's Assistant Community Editors (ACE's). We're a bunch of volunteers who roam this place trying to be as nice and helpful as possible, and meet and greet as many newcomers as we can.
If there's something you need help with, or just want a few links to some of the cool places in here, I suggest you visit our common homepage.

I'm not sure if you know this already, but there's a welcoming message to all newcomers over here

Other questions you'd might like to ask? Try the "ask H2G2" and "How do I..."-forums

btw. In case you haven't noticed, the "Don't Panic" button in the top menu bar links to an occasionally useful help section.
Don't worry if you don't understand any of this, just stick this in your ear

Saint Lys, Patron Saint of Asylum Seekers Posted Jul 22, 2000
Hello I'm just wondering around cyber space cause it was easier to get into than real space (although when we had a dial up modem that was questionable)anyway I stumbled in here and am now trapped I don't particularly mind although it gets rather confusing and I wish I'd brought a road map plenty of people to ask for directions though and if all else fails I just click on my home button where I get whisked away to my deep fortress of solitary confinement (well semi solitary anyway now and then someone drops by usually they leave after awhile although I did have to evict a rather annoying howler monkey very rude to incoming people)I think that's it but come visit some time and tell me what you think of my page

Hi man! Thanks for dropping me a line. There are times when I do need an Asylum, if my family are to be believed. It's not my fault, of course. Just because I fill the house with wires and cables, and create examples of irrelevant technical wizardry, while leaving essential jobs "for tomorrow"...
In the days of my misspent youth, my mother often said that I would put her in an Asylum, but in this I was happily unsuccessful. Anyway, once more thanks for the contact, I'll get back to you when I've found your page.
Meantime, keep taking the tablets, twice a day after meals, and call me if things don't improve!

Hi Greebo,
Thus saith the Oracle: Place the tablets in the hole of the doughnut for painless absorption. Take with coffee...
As for the tablets themslves – your choice!

Hi Bistroist
Thanks for the welcome, and your latest bit of information. It's very comforting to know that you look at sites like mine more than once!
I am very involved in the work of Dog Rescue in the UK, and I should like to create an entry for the Guide. Much of what happens in the UK has a world-wide relevance, except in those countries where dogs are regarded as food of course.
For those who share my interest in the Dog Rescue movement, or who want to give a home to a rescue dog, I have a website under construction at [Broken link removed by Moderator]which is worth a visit - if only to boost the hit counter!
Have you any entries on Rescue dogs in the Guide???

(and why not? The Duke of Wellington never suffered by being named after footwear!)

Sorry to anyone who tried to reach the K9 website and failed. My fault! I missed out the www. bit. If you're keen to find it, try this:

You wouldn't believe I read it through twice before posting the message!!
Must be my age...

When you're thinking about writing a guide entry about a given subject, always start out by doing a search to see if there are any related entries out there already. You should have a search button somewhere in the top of your screen...
I couldn't find any entries to do with Dog Rescue, though, so go ahead and good luck!
