It certainly didn't start out as an interesting day. I woke up around 11:00 and listened to a bit of NPR(Diane Reem, but not Diane Reem, as she's on vacation, and some man whose voice pattern is, unsurprisingly, far different From Diane Reems cadaver/Katharine Hepburn-like growl, which I found rather soothing in the morning) as I always do whilst munching on my lovely frosted flakes, Tony's healthy feline grin always reassuring me. He has companions now too, olympic runners. I don't care for them much as they aren't cartoons, but anyway. I read The Rubaiyat, and worked a bit on my Fractal music composing. All in all, nothing too big, quite a normal, and overtly boring day, as usual. I didn't even touch my guitar, and neglected the unkempt lawn with ease. My parents are on vacation three thousand miles away, and that's quite a lot of buffer zone. It's quite excellent.
But regardless, it was an interesting day, but it certainly didn't seem interesting at first. I bet a lot of one-night stands are like that too.
It started raining as I left for work at Safeway, a supermarket that's all over America, and is proud to offer it's customers "Superior Customer Service," so we can charm them into buying as much as possible from us. Capitalist pigs. Anyways, I work as a courtesy clerk. Of course, with a name like that, you know it's gotta be a crappy job, right? Well, I clean toilets.
I knew it was going to be an interesting day when I heard the the incessant electronic beeping that my car makes when the key is left in the ignition. I only realized this sound was being made, just as I was closing my locked door.
My breathing rate shot up faster than a V6 engine. I usually panic in a slightly comedic way when these things happen. Comedic, not necessarily to me, of course. I constantly picture myself in some comedy movie, and I try to be as entertaining as possible for whatever hidden camera there is. Fortunately, my interrogation of various coworkers as to their knowledge of breaking into locked cars seemed to amuse them slightly. A fellow courtesy clerk, Dave who rollerblades 4 miles to this Safeway when he needs to work(he was off today, but happened to be around), offered to use a coat hanger to break into my car. I asked him if he had any previous experience and he just laughed and shook his head. I shruged. He can rollerblade, I thought, he must be better than me at everything. So he worked on it for 30 minutes, braving the dangers of a do-gooder suburbanite mother in a Suburu who parked by my car and stared at Dave fiddling with the lock for a few minutes. It didn't work, unfortunately, but he sure did try hard, and I thank him for that.
To make matters much, much worse, I noticed that I didn't completely shut off my headlights. The running lights, for some reason, was still on. My brother couldn't find the spare keys, so the lights stayed on till I got off work. Around 9:00 pm, I noticed the running lights were out on my car. The battery was dead now. Tragic.
My brother took me home and I found the keys. Preventing me from tending to my sick car was the arrival of Brian, and two friends from Oregon I met on the net three years ago. One of them is very attracted to me and it scares me, because I'm quite worried about doing something wrong, or that I might regret. It's a very complicated issue. Ah, teenage life. Anyways, we went to a local Diner and had some desert. They're very amusing company, and Brian was very confused by one of the girl's demands for "robot porn." Brian is very happy with normal porn, _very happy_, so he doesn't need no stinking robot porn.
Brian dropped the girls off and drove me to the Safeway parking lot, where I was able to open the door with the spare key, and retrieve all valuables from the car(Jigglypuff, my Belle and Sebastian and Smashing Pumpkins CD), but were unable to jump start the dead battery, because we were afraid of the adverse effects the rain might cause. Does anyone know how to tell if a battery is fully dead? Or if it can be jump started. The dummy lights popped up when I turned the ignition, but they were faint. Oh well. That was my day. Now I'm trying to figure out what else I can do with this h2g2 and all of it's crazy myriad of forums. This was a long journal. Ack.

I too got locked out of my car once--it was a rental, and I was on a road trip in the Adirondack mountains in NY State. I stopped at a rest area to pee and thought I'd leave the engine running--then I locked the door on myself. I had to flag down a passing driver, who sent a cop, who got the repair guy to come and open it right away. $40 and two hours down the tubes. At least it was warm out (for November).
I guess that's why I prefer riding around on my bike to driving. No door to lock/unlock.
