Hi there! Glad to see you're interested in lending a hand. 
Scouts here on h2g2 spend a good chunk of their volunteering efforts helping out in Peer Review -- reading the entries and offering helpful feedback. If you're interested in being a scout, I'd suggest you spend some hanging out in Peer Review, seeing the other scouts in action, getting a feel for things there, and offering your own helpful suggestions. There are a bunch of benefits of doing this:
You get a better idea of what being a scout involved, We get to see that you're really serious about wanting to see a scout, and The people in peer review get the benefit of your comments!
It's a win-win-win, all around.
