Calling All Sub-Editors
Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Nov 12, 2011
Thank you all for volunteering to be sub-editors in the new h2g2.
For the last few weeks we've got by with the h2g2 Guide Editors editing anything we needed for the Front Page. But now that things are settling down, we need to ease our trusty sub-editors (that's you) into your role.
We're going to use a Noesis forum to communicate requests about sub-editing. If you're not already registered on Noesis, you'll have to arrange that now. (We'll provide instructions for anyone who needs them.)
If you are registered on Noesis, can you go over there now and check you can see this forum:
http://forum.noesify.com/index.php?/forum/200-sub-editors/
If you can, you can start requesting batches of entries to sub-edit.
I'm somewhat feeling my way here - I don't know if that Noesis forum is visible to people who are not sub-editors, so don't post anything controversial there for the moment. I'll try and check this out with Aly who organises Noesis. Ideally we should all be able to comment on entries we're sub-editing without fear of offending the authors.
So, let's go and get this show on the road!

I'm having a job getting access to the parts of Noesis I need to access, but I'll be there when I get that sorted out.

Just to let you know we've seen this and will get that sorted this evening. Lovely to have some new volunteers!

That's a relief Bagpuss.
Just in case people are having a problem navigating to the actual bit of Noesis forum that is for the Editorial volunteers, here is a link:
http://forum.noesify.com/index.php?/forum/184-guide-and-editorial-volunteers/
If you get a message saying that you are not permitted to view that forum, and are a current Sub-editor ( or Scout for that matter ) please let us know and we will kick the system for you.

I hadn't really used the Noesis forums (in fact I was surprised when I tried to register and it told me I already was) so it's entirely reasonable I hadn't been given sub-ed priveleges.

I currently can't access that part of the forums - could someone please do some system kicking? (My user name on there is mikeo_s.)
Many thanks!

Hi again Mikeo, I have just been told that Asteroid lil has been into the noesis permissions and hopefully you will now be able to access the sub-editors forum.
Let me know if this is ok.

I'm here! And I have access to everything I need on Noesis. Unfortunately I don't have an abundance of time at the moment.
Started the new job about a month ago and inherited my predecessor's backlog (are you sure you want me to sub-edit with spelling like that? ). I'm overbooked with doctors' appointments for myself and my youngest, and I'm seriously behind on a couple of handmade Christmas presents I've been working on. In short, possibly in January I can make a meaningful contribution.
If you need the badge back that's fine, I can let you know when I'm ready to earn it. Sorry all, I just didn't see all this coming when I volunteered.

That's OK, broelan. I'll keep you on the books for the moment.
When you are ready to do some sub-editing, just go over to the Noesis forum and request some entries.

Despite there being 14 sub-editors, only 7 of you are actually working on anything at the moment. I know you've all got busy lives, but would anybody like to take another entry or two?
And if you are nearly finished editing an entry, please finish it soon and return it to the Editors.

I can't see that forum. And I'm registered as Bernadette.

Hi Bernadette - I have organised your permission so you should hopefully be able to see the forum here:
http://forum.noesify.com/index.php?/forum/200-sub-editors/
Please can you check that you are now able to see it? Let me know please.

I'm not really here Posted Apr 9, 2012
I'm still waiting for my access to the forum.
I was told I had it, but I still get
"[#103139] You do not have permission to view this forum. "
