Fantastic. I'd never even heard of this until now.
No comments to add, I'm afraid, but that's because I liked it. Nothing in there stopped my enjoyment apart from the word gubernatorial which I looked up and found out you had used correctly.

* a footnote perhaps, where "stacked the deck" is involved. Some may not understand the reference
<> (3rd word after California)
(love the idea of Klamath aligning and joing Portugal )
And I love the final quote, "a little rebellion now and then ...". It has toppled states, provinces and even web-sites.
A really enjoyable read again

Great entry
I have two (small) comments.
The entry opens with a Blockquote describing a proclaimation of independence. I was really unsure when this happened! It could have been any time from 1910 to 2010, and I do think that it would benefit from a date.
I would also alter the title - to something along the lines of 'The State of Jefferson - rebellion and protest'

Thank you, TRiG, Vip, Rev Nick, and Dr Zen for giving this entry a review.
Rev Nick: A "stacked the deck" footnote has been added, as has the missing word.
Dr Zen: The date was (and still is) part of the blockquote. To address this, I changed the formatting within the Proclamation of Independence to improve readability.
After briefly toying with the idea of calling the entry 'Jefferson - The Jackassable State' I settled on 'The Jefferson State Rebellion' as a title.

Too bad the first title wouldn't've made it
I'm very glad I shanghaied... er, talked you into writing this. I couldn't've written anything nearly as good.
(Firefox actually recognizes "shanghaied" )

Thank you, h5ringer, and BMT.
Amy, perhaps you could announce to them that due to their unresponsiveness you might have to secede from the Northwestern h2g2 researcher group, taking with you the counties of Curry, Josephine, and Jackson. That might get their attention.

Sorry to rock the boat, but I think that opening quote should be in italics. Also, to quote the English Usage page: >>>make quote marks singles (') not doubles ("), as it saves space and looks nicer.<<<
Otherwise, very interesting

Didn't we start out that way? I do too it actually makes it look like the original.

Italics in place now.
How do we deal with embedded quotes? Don't we alternate as a rule?

There's no specific guide to embedded quotes, but generally you're right that a quote within quoted material should be not-italicised.

Eureka:
Make quote marks singles (') not doubles ("), as it saves space and looks nicer6. Quotes within quotes should be double quotes, of course - and GuideML tag attributes7 always require double quotes for them to work.
