This is a really excellent entry. Well done!
Just one thing confused me - "What's important is the lowest number - that's the printing number. Therefore if the number line says 89415726 you've probably got a first edition.". Let me get this right - because there is a digit "1" in this number, its a first edition. Correct?
Maybe that needs a little bit more explaining, as I looked at 89415726 and said to myself "wow, that's a pretty large number, so how could it possibly be a first edition?"
Other than that, this is superbly written and very clearly explained.

It's a great entry and explains the topic very well, in my opinion.
I have a first edition of Harry Potter 3 which according to a BBC site I found once is worth around 1000 pounds or more. Of course, it's not in particularly good condition, as I only found out quite recently that it was valuable! In 1998 my mother refused to buy me a hardback edition of Harry Potter 2 as it was too expensive, but she really should have done it because it would be very valuable now!

Thanks for the feedback guys
Z - it was withdrawn because I didn't have enough internet access to see it through PR.
Woodpigeon - I've now changed the wording slightly to
'What's important is the lowest number in the line - that's the printing number. Therefore if the number line says 8 9 4 1 5 7 2 6 you've probably got a first edition.'
Hope that's clearer. If not let me know and I'll try again

Looks clearer to me – I scratched my head a little first time I read it – thought it might just be “teacher-without-brain-on-school-holidays" syndrome!!!
Good entry, short and succinct – I liked it – good luck with making the EG!

Thankyou
Niwt, I did the same as your mother. In 1997 'The Subtle Knife' by Philip Pullman came out, and being rather broke I though 'I'm not paying all that money for a book, I'll get it out of the library when it's released.'
You can already tell this story has a painful end, no?
Tartarus Press reckon it's worth... a thousand pounds.
I picked the damn book up in the shop and decided not to buy it.

Good one
But remember full stops/periods after footnotes and unordered lists (footnote one and the list about valuable books and what they sold at)

Like it! Very readable.
'Rarity - if there were thousands of book printed, it decreases the value.'
Do you want 'books' here? Or maybe 'the book'?
Also, I must admit I had to read this part more than once: 'What's important is the lowest number in the line - that's the printing number. Therefore if the number line says 8 9 4 1 5 7 2 6 you've probably got a first edition.'
What about something like 'What's important is the lowest number in the line, wherever it appears - that's the printing number. Therefore if the number line says 8 9 4 1 5 7 2 6 you've probably got a first edition, as there is a number 1 in the sequence'.
Too much or clearer now?
Good luck with the Entry!

Excellent!
Just a small niggle:
Rarity - if there are thousands of first editions in existance it decreases the value.
existance = existence
(sorry)
