But here (Bavaria), the plural is "Frikadellen". There's also an altogether different name for them: "Fleischpflanzerl" (both singular and plural form).

Hi, I'm a Danish guy, and my personal space is still the same, eventhough I have difficulties reactivating my old account ( I dont remember my password - what do I do?)
I've been to Bayern and had the Frikadelle, the origin of this is Holstein and the Southern Part of Jutland - both sides of the border.
By the way, nice yo het some response.
The Viking.

The plural is definitely "Frikadellen", also known as "Fleischpflanzerl" in Bavaria or "Bullette(n)" in Berlin (where you get it at every pub together with potata salad).
The word "Frikadellen" is also used for the hairy part at your ears that is right between your head's hair and your beard.... very common to have in the seventies...

Interesting! I never heard of "Frikadellen" describing the hairy part between main-hair and beard. I thought they were usally called "Koteletten" -at least in german- and I didn't know any synonymous. But one never finishes training. But does anyone know the correct english translation? Is it sideburns?

The correct translation is sideburns, although I think the term was also corrupted to sideboards at some point. This is strange, as a sideboard is a long, low cupboard, normally in the lounge of your house.
I have also heard the term "chops" used for them in English, which is a direct translation of Koteletten.
Sideburns is by far the most popular term, though....
