I'm just about to buy the Criterion versions of Brazil and Life of Brian (yes I'm a bit of a Terry Gilliam fan). They look superb if a little pricey.

What Criterion DVDs have you got? I'm keen to get more but haven't got much money so I want to make sure I get the right ones!

Glad to hear you're a Gilliam fan! So am I, and I've got as many of his movies on DVD or LD as I could find.

As for Criterion recommendations, I've got just under 40 of their discs, both recent and old movies. The best I can suggest is my approach to them: if it's by Criterion, it's at least worth considering. I haven't been let down by them yet.

Picnic At Hanging Rock
Passion of Joan of Arc

What I can't understand is why they made a Criterion version of Armageddon... Other than that, they seem to have covered some superb films, so I'll be expanding my collection in the future!

I'm quite a fan of Terry Gilliam films that most people seem to dislike... I thoroughly enjoyed Baron Munchausen (sp?) and Time Bandits. Maybe it's because I love silly stories! Oh and I'm a Monty Python fan, of course. I'm highly tempted to buy the complete set of special edition Monty Python DVDs. I probably will as soon as I can justify the cost!
I'm lucky as I didn't start collecting films until DVDs started being made... so I'm building up my collection solely of DVDs. Bizarrely enough, here in Britain it's cheaper to order DVDs from America than to buy them in the shops; and the American ones tend to have better extras anyway. Things like the Criterion DVDs haven't been released in Region 2 yet. Thank God for region-hacked players!
