This is basicaly a concise article on the legend of the ghost dog. I've tried to fit as much relevant information in as I can and have also put some examples of phantom hound stories at the end to make the whole thing more entertaining.

I look forward to hearing what other people have to say about it.

Jamie.

Nice; pretty comprehensive, I'd say. One relatively minor point I would make is to tighten the structure of the entry slightly. Maybe put paragraphs together and separate them using the tags in GuideML - this is a purely stylistic point, though; the content of the entry's great.

Somebody (ie a scout whose turn is before me) recommend this, please!

OK, thanks for the advice. It's now re-styled with a few subheadings and stuff. I'm also looking out for a decent picture to put in. What do you think; a photograph of Bungay church or something, or is clipart more the norm?

Jamie.

I've no idea what the Guide's policy on any sort of pictures is (great scout, huh?)... If you got in touch with one of the Subs or something, they would be able to give you the lowdown.

The entry as it stands at the moment is great; might it be worth mentioning different types of spectral animals briefly?

There we are, I've added one of my favourite phantom hound pictures. I think it rounds off the whole thing quite well; what do you think?

Good entry - it's been nicely segmented.

On the subject of pictures - yeah, it's a great picture! However, in order to use it I think h2g2 would have to obtain copyright permission first... I'm almost certain that one of the many talented in-house artists would grace the entry with an equally good illustration.

However, I'm no authority on the subject - probably best to check with the Editors, as Nex suggested.

I know that it's a very old picture; a century or two at least. I'm not sure that it would be copywrited. But I do see the need for caution. Should I remove it or leave everything to the editors from here on in?

Jamie.

Hi Jamie,
Very nice entry.
On the subject of graphics, feel free to leave the pic. Ifthe entryis accepted, the editors will drop it in the approved entry, but it should stay in the original entry.
As I have it H2G2's policy currently is no pics in the approved guide because of potential copywrite hassels. I know it is a shame, but that is the way it is for the mo - Much like if you hold an apple in the air and let go, it wil fall-

I hope that doesn't discourage you to write similar articles in future.

ZOE ya round!

Speaking of pictures, if the article was accepted would it automatically get a little picture drawn for it or does it depend on how good the editors think it is? What's the criteria there?

Jamie.

I'm not sure, but I think as a rule pictures are ommitted.

I think I have read somewhere (possibly from Mark Moxon) that only the 'Pick of the Day' gets a piccie, if you take my meaning... so you'll just have to keep your fingers crossed
...I suppose that we are crossing bridges before the eggs are hatched (?) but it does make sense to be able to speak about the procedure with confidence smiley - smiley

I'm not assuming that my entry will be accepted or anything (although it would be nice!) but it's my reasoning that if entries like http://www.h2g2.com/A2061 can get through then mine stands a pretty good chance.

Jamie.

Yeuch! I see what you mean - but if you look at the date and the author line, wou can see that this must be one of the very first entries written after the first of the h2g2 team crawled out of the slime (no criticism: I was still sliming at that stage). I have every confidence that that entry will be revised one day: why not have a go? smiley - winkeye

And I's sure that if/when your entry is recommended (no slur - Scouts get their wrists slapped if they try to predict the future!) it will be fine: picture or not smiley - smiley

Thanks for the info Rev. I've updated the article somewhat if anyone's interested. Mostly bits and pieces but there are two new sub-sections at the end too.

I will vote for Peregrin if you don't have a stress at me for asking this but...
Any idea how close this entry is to being accepted/rejected?
