On my space there is no 'start a new conversation' but below the discussion list as there should be. What is going on?

It's the same when everyone who uses brunel views their own personal space. It's assumed you don't want to talk to yourself.

But there used to be a button where one could start a conversation which everyone could see, did there not? Sure I don't want to talk to myself, but people begin new threads on h2g2 and I cannot see how it is done.

Hmm that's an odd one. I don't use brunel (because it goves me migraines) but when I view my own page briefly in it, the My Messages section has a big link at the top of it labelled "Leave a Message" and the journal has a similar link labelled "Add a Journal Entry". Don't you see either of these? Did you sign up to one of the messageboards before you signed up to h2g2? If so then it's not a bug.

If you write a journal entry on your personal space, then that becomes the first post of a new conversation. Anyone who visits your PS can reply to this. Also, anybody who has you listed as a friend is automatically notified of your journal in their 'My Conversations' list.
Hope this helps.

It might have something to do with you having registered first on the Religion messageboard. Although even on that site I can see a link to 'Click here to discuss this article' which is actually the link to leave a message. And I definitely see one in h2g2's skin.

Ah, I am registered for the BBC's other boards.
There should be a button at the top/bottom of the 'discussions' list that says 'start a new discussion', but I cannot see one. I use alabaster by the way. I can't stand the other one either.
There is a 'add journal entry' button and I could add a guide entry too, but that is not what was there before I am sure!

On your personal space, there is a 'Discuss this entry' button. This is where people would post messages to your personal space. Your conversation list is a separate list which shows all the conversations you've joined in. It's not the place for people to leave you messages.
If you go to the conversation list for your message centre (F2225952) there is also a New Conversation button.

Ah, that is the button I am after. Thanks! Why is it not on the 'My Space' page?!!!

Might it be because of what Croz was saying re not wanting to talk to yourself?
Fault!!!!
Jim Lynn Posted Aug 7, 2005
Because on 'My Space' it's called 'Discuss This Entry' in Alabaster. In Brunel you get a link 'Leave a Message'.

Why isn't it the same for every skin?
Fault!!!!
Jim Lynn Posted Aug 7, 2005
Because it takes time and money to update the old skins, and that time and money has never been available for that purpose.
