GuideML and the bullet points in lists....

Post 1

Crescent

.....I made a list that was in a list, inside yet another list, and the bullet points seem to be the wrong way round. As you go down the levels it would look more professional if the bullet points got 'smaller' or less noticable. At the moment in goes like so -

1. Top level - filled in circles
2. Next level down - hollow circles
3. Next level down - filled in squares

Now the filled squares seem to command more attention than the levels above. This seems topsy-turvy. Is it possible to change them? I hope I explained this well enough, if there are any questions, please ask away smiley - smiley Until later.....

GuideML and the bullet points in lists....

Crescent,

The disc/circle/square hierarchy in Unordered lists is the same as in html, so the way it's implemented now fits in with the rest of the internet as established.

Perhaps what would help is the use of the 'type' attribute within the list -- eg.: which allows you to set/override the symbol used for each level to your own taste. This is an html attribute which appears to be not fully supported in GuideML. While I didn't check it thoroughly, it appears that the type attribute is not supported in GuideML unordered lists, but is supported to some extent in GuideML ordered lists.

So, oddly enough, in an unordered list, GuideML ignores the html-style type attributes here and presents them in the standard disc/circle hierarchy:

But, in an ordered list, which you're supposed to use for counting (1, 2, 3 or I, II, III, or A,B,C, etc.), GuideML allows the attributes for the unordered list symbols and the bullets show up as you define them.

This may actually be a bug in a way, but in any case, perhaps the feature request should be to fully support the type attribute in lists, which would allow you to choose your own bullets.
