A new amendment french speed law has been passed.

Beware new speed limits. The speed limit on French secondary roads – the two-lane highways that cross 400,000 km of the country – has been reduced from 90km/h to 80km/h as of 1 July 2018.Jul 4, 2018.

No new laws, its already covered by the reckless driving laws, and the opinion of the police, usually dealt with fines, no mercy!

So, is the speed limit 80kmh no matter the weather?

As the French effectively have two police forces. The local police normally and similar to the British police and unarmed (it keeps the tourists happy). Normally approachable and helpful.

The National Gendarmerie this is part of the French army always armed and have access to other automatic weapons. A flack jacket and the army style uniform is the give away and have the same powers as the police, they are not a problem just tell them your English and do what they say.
You will however loose any argument with them so stay calm and do not start one!
