<'like a comfy old pair of slippers'> 'Like a pair of comfy old slippers'

I'd agree about the Blessing - I read this last night and thought it would be so, as it is a part of the religious Wedding Service.

Hi smiley - galaxy

1) <'like a comfy old pair of slippers'> 'Like a pair of comfy old slippers'

"That's a direct quote from Camilla herself...so needn't be changed"

I can't find the direct quote, but the headline on your link is "Like a pair of comfy old slippers" http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4420353.stm

2) "The link you supplied to replace "Prince of the United Kingdom" says service unavailable so I've just removed the original dead link"

The original link was to a Debrett's page - the one I suggested (which is still live http://www.debretts.com/people/royal-family/the-line-of-succession.aspx ) shows the line of succession, headed by Prince Charles - probably not worth keeping (the link).

3) the blessing

"I think my way is correct, it's an important part of the service"

That may be so, but none of the dictionaries agrees with you http://www.onelook.com/?w=+Blessing&ls=a

4) "I won't update their ages when they wed, that remains in stone"

Sorry, my bad! smiley - blush

Gnomon - time to move on

If the issue here is whether it should be blessing or Blessing, I'd go along with Blessing. The Church of England Marriage Service gives titles to each of the sections, such as the Proclamation, the Marriage, the Blessing of the Marriage and so on. I think we should stick with these.

I've put the Debretts link on the phrase "Prince of the United Kingdom".

A Google search shows that both phrases "a pair of comfy old slippers" and "a comfy old pair of slippers" are commonly used, so I'll take GB's word for it that the way she is quoting Camilla directly.

But the quotes (both within quotation marks) don't match.

You could keep the wording as is and remove the quotation marks from the Entry...

Of course, the BBC might have got it wrong.
