When I'm in doubt about the use of a punctuation mark (which is quite often) and I can't be bothered to look through my grammar books, I check websites for a clear explanation of that particular mark (with examples, tests, etc).

If you want something more general, I've just found this site: http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/marks/marks.htm , though it's American and should be read in conjunction with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_and_British_English_differences
