Differences in journal headers

It's not a bug as such, but it's just caused me a little confusion.

If I go to http://h2g2.com/forums/A94899/conversations/F12528 - then the header says that these are 'Conversations for You can check out any time you like'. Now 'You can check out any time you like' is the title of Pastey's PS, so it's still technically correct, but not quite as informative as knowing that I'm looking at his journal. So it's not really wrong, but possibly not as 'right' as it could be, if you catch my drift. Geggs

Exactly. You could see your journal as a load of conversations, started by you, hanging off your homespace.
Similarly your message centre would be a load of conversations, started by other people, hanging off your homespace.
But calling either of them 'Conversations for ', doesn't quite convey the full force of what these two forums actually are.

I have been trying to see the difference (technically) between journals and messages... they both hang off the Userpage, but at the same time - not. Journals can be started by the User themselves only, but messages by anyone.
The A number in that link doesn't really lead to anything but the Oops page. I remember something like there being both Unumber page and Anumber userpage, at some point, but it gets weird.

It looks very neat when I come via the UserPage, and use the Journal / Conversations / Messages buttons in the blue banner... not at all like the link you gave, Geggs. How did you come to that place?

It's a thing I came across while updating the QotD locations leaderboard in A87784915.
I take the link for the relevant post - which I won't post here, so that you can see this post in Pliny - and strip out the information for the post and thread. That would give me http://h2g2.com/forums/A94899/conversation/view/F12528 which is quite interesting in itself, really.
I with a little experimentation I discovered that changing 'conversation/view' to 'conversations' got me to the right place, but I now see isn't really the right view.
I fully admit that it's a bit of a back end view, and probably only accessible through a bit of mad url manipulation. But that's half the fun, isn't it?

I really think I would prefer if you use the correct Journal url... it looks better... but if it doesn't work in Ripley, I understand you had to do something else...

No, Icy, just me messing about with urls and finding one which isn't the best.
I'll use the user_journal links for the leaderboard from now on, Milla. It's a bit more work, but the links will definitely look better.
