Sorry I know I'm an old fuddy duddy but I like goo.

Since yesterday I've been getting onto the new look and have to reset me preferences to goo every single time I access the site.
This is a bit irritating.

The preference to goo is there - it just doesn't seem to work until I actually go to the preferences page and press update.

I'm being hurled into Pliny, too, each time I sign in (even though I sign in from a brunel page). I just go to a bookmarked page afterwards, though, which sorts it. Can you try that, Orcus?

Naah, doesn't work.

One other thing - I tried replying to this thread via Pliny and it didn't work. It just went to a blank page that fails to load at all...

I should maybe reemphasize, it doesn't matter what I click on (save ;update; in the preferences of course ) - I get Pliny unless I first update my preferences to Goo - in which case it then works perfectly.

this is on the list of 'known issues' which we're working on. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. If you are able to bookmark h2g2 in the skin or your choice you should be ok.

If not, then I am sorry, and again we hope it will be fixed soon.

Hiya, sticky skins is pretty high up our list of things to do. We're just clearing the bugs to make Pliny stable and working well, and it's going well, and then I think that's either number one or two on the list. Certainly in the top five.

Any news on the problem solving yet... I don't like this skin

Just go to your home page in your favourite skin, then bookmark it. Any pages you go to from there (except the Front Page) will then be in the same skin and you need never go to a different one.

You can also just go to the preferences every time you log in and set them to your skin of choice. The skin will stay until you leave the page.

I have the same thing: if I go to h2g2.com the page is of course in Pliny, if I log in it stays Pliny although my Preferences are set to brunel, so if I really want to get brunel I have to go to my Preferences and just click 'update' (I don't have to change anything because it already says 'brunel'). But for me personally it's not a big issue because it's changed really fast and once it is done the page stays in brunel until I log out.

Hmm, you seem to have miscontstrued what I said then.

Once I have updated my preferences, it sticks for the duration of this particular visit to the site and the duration of the web browser being open.

But when I return I have never seen it stick to my preferences yet since the last update.

(PS I don't use bookmarks in web browsing - so whilst this is an OK temporary solution - albeit one I don't use - it's not really a satisfactory solution)

No, I tell a lie - I just changed to a new website, came back and the pliny skin was back. So it doesn't last a web session - just while I'm on the site and no longer.

I always keep h2g2 in a separate tab, so I can't tell about visiting other websites, but other than that it's exactly like that.

Orcus, how do you get to h2g2 if you don't use a bookmark? Do you type the address into the address bar? I have a bookmark attached to a button at the top of the screen and I just click this button any time I want to go to h2g2.

I have two buttons - one brings me to Pliny and the other to Alabaster.

Well, as the url for every skin is different this works of course and hootoo stays in a skin once you are there (even if not logged in).
