Most people put personal information on this bit of the guide and then make a guide entry about other specific subjects. Anyway: Hi there! I'm androyd one of the Assistant Community Editors who have volunteered to help new members. I don't know if you've realised it yet, but the guide is about more than guide entries. Try these links to make new friends or even get a virtual job. I did.

So any more questions or just to say hi, get in touch. I liked the entry so why not make it a guide entry. To edit your homepage just like on edit.

A1(begging your acceptance of this abbreviation of your doubtlessly honorable nom(given your illustrious lineage))
I really am a dumb ol' drywaller and do not have the foggiest about how to apply for posting to the guide. Tried going thru the instructions and ended as confused as when I started. Checked for other entries about hat plugs and was dithered about for awhile thru entries to whick I could make no connection to hat plugs. The entry is just a trick I know from (unfortunately) years in this vocation. I got the impression from the initial instructions I should write about something of which I am familiar. Hence, hp. Anyway, I will check some of the sites you recommended and welcome wholeheartedly any concrete directions you can give me on how to proceed.
As an asside I presume you are across the water. Please advise.

Hi there, jr1952... Saw you over at the cafe and thought I'd drop by here to welcome you, but I see Androyd has done, as usual, a great job.

I think hat plugs would make a good guide entry. If you click on 'Add Guide Entry' on the left of your page, you can create a new page, separate from your home page. Put in the stuff about hat plugs, preview it, then hit 'update entry' or whatever the button says. It will now show up in your list of Guide entries on the left. With links to view it or edit it. Go ahead and fiddle around with it until you're satisfied, then when you go to edit it, click on the 'submit article for approval' You'll still be able to edit it until it passes the backlog of entries and the editors take over. Then, in 4-15 weeks, your article may be added to the 'Approved Entries'

For your home page, put whatever you want. If you want to see others' home pages, simply click on their name at the top of a post.

Hope this helps.

Hi there!

I know just how you feel. I left my home page as I found it when I first arrived because I was too much of a coward to risk putting the 'wrong thing' on it. I did as Redbeard suggests and clicked on a few names to see what people were doing. Some of the home pages are frighteningly impressive and were obviously written in the (to me) mysterious HTML. But others are just chatty and friendly.

I love your advice - I'm very 'into' DIY and this way of patching up plasterboard certainly beats others I've tried. Thanks for the professional 'knowhow'.

Let me recommend the Guardian Angels page. There is a whole, very helpful, Guide for newcomers that made me feel a lot safer. The link is on a previous reply - sorry, I don't know how to look at the forum without exiting this page.

Me, again. The link on the previous reply doesn't work because the letter 'A' is missing.

Here is the correct address. It might not work as a link, but you can type it into the address bar.

Good luck. I'm off for tea and bickies at the 'welcome newcomers' page where I met you! smiley - smiley

Andy (if the diminutive of your nom is acceptable), followed your suggestions and tried again on the home page. If you would be so kind as to skip over there and leave me a note on your thoughts about it I will be greatly appreciatve and forever in your dept (given, I don't intend to repay it). Thanks, jr. Redbeard, I'm baaaack. I tried to make my home page somewhat more in tune with the norm here and seem to have tubed my hat plug entry. Can you check it for me and if this is the case tell me if there is any way to retrieve it or do I need to do it again. Guess I still don't understand about submittals. Thanks, jr. ttfn

Your home page is fine. It's really whatever you want it to be. Yours provides interesting information and an idea of who you are. Good approach.

Yes, the hat plug entry is gone. Random electrons.... unretrievable.

What you need to do is find Add New Guide Entry on your home page. It's there, believe me. It will provide you with a blank screen, not an edit of your home page, but a blank new one. Write your hat plugs entry there, and then you'll have two guide entries -- your home page, and your hat plugs page.

Hope this helps.

Thank you kind sir. I do believe you re: guide entry. I think I get it now. Also, in stopping by your home I noticed (but did not read) your interest in the war on drugs. I believe you are right about having lost it and being a waste. Unfortunately, there will be no official war crimes tribunal wherein we (the collective) could bring the perpatraitors to justice.
Going for coffee now. ttfn
