This may seem quite rude..but may I ask if you're ethnically chinese? It doesn't really matter... I'm just curious.

I am a mutt, a skinny white guy of basically British extraction, with of course) a bit of Scotch and Irish thrown in to make things interesting. Something Norse lurking around as well.

Strangely, my Great grandfather and grandfather were born and raised in China, and their mother language was Mandarin. Also have (ethnic) Chinese family members. Maybe I should post a pedigree pie chart.

Of course all these things are very interesting- what is your identity? Do you signify by birth, language, handedness, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin, class status, occupation, some combination, or something else entirely? Discordian? Signifying Ape?

This is some of what I want to study in connection with Chinese migrants and immigrants- is Chinese (Han) culture becoming an international culture? If so, what elements make it up? Is it a birthright only, or is it more porous as all that?
