Speaks for itself. I don't think parents give their kids enough trust... maybe because they think that their kids will act like they did when they were younger. My mother was pregnant at 17... she drank and smoked relentlessly... and I'm not just talking about cigarettes. I'm nothing like her, yet she has accoused me of several things more than once, based soley on her experience, I know.

It's all down on the parents themselves. I got mates whose parents, well, I dunno how much time they spend checkin' on their kids but the minutes could prolly be counted on one hand! And others, well, you gotta bless 'em...
My parents are rather protective, but not to a digree that makes 'em unbearable. I would love to be able to travel up to a gig on a coach with just a few mates, but I've still gotta work on that with my PTB! But, you gotta love 'em. You gotta put a limit somewhere, haven't you? Bless 'em!

I think every kid thinks his/her parents are the most over protective. I've seen parents that go to whole new extremes. However the fact that they stay up and wait for you to get in isn't so they can spy on you, they just want you to be alright.
The fact that they don't want you to go to certain places is because they went there themselves and don't want you to follow suit.
They love you if they are deemed to be overprotective sadly the ones who seem to let their kids do whatever they want end up with maladjusted kids.

My mother is the sort that will riffle through my room while I am away- and look in my wallet if it is ANYWHERE in the house

Yeah, will, if you're the kid with the parents, then if helps to remember that they're doing it cos they love you, and want you to grow up to be ace. There are moments when there seems to be no point in their fretting, so -that's- when you start having a fit!

How protective your parents are is not as closely related to trust as it seems. Many parents who know that their kid ain't gonna do anything awful or rash still have doubts about letting them off. This is something that boils down to basic parental instinct. It's a feeling they get that once you are all grown up and gone, they don't know what to do. All the time spent looking after you and making sure you were clean, well fed, comfortable, and happy, is now spent waiting for you to come home. It's trying. Well, that's what my mother tells me, anyway.

I try putting myself in my parents shoes, and fathoming out how they're thinking...it's a great insight, and helps me to understand them

Alright, NO-ONE can have protective parents as mine!!!! The weekend I met Skandal they were signing autographs, and when they did they'd give you a little kiss on the cheek, so getting kissed by 3 out of 4 of them was making me VERY happy, but my mum totally disapproved! She thinks I'm going to go off and have some kind of affair with them!(I wish!!!!) I then told her later I had my picture taken with 2 of them, so she doesn't approve of that, and when I said I stayed behind to have a chat with my favourite member she REALLY disapproved! I mean, how over protective is that??? I can't get my head round it.....

You wanna bet? Actually...my mother is something of an oddity; she keeps trying to get me to go out more "like normal kids of my age", and yet she had a major fit when she went through my bag and found a packet of condoms. The irony is that it given that I'm 17, it's legal for me to have sex but illegal to go clubbing...
