It seems that the ACE's welcoming party have missed you off so I just thought I'd drop by and say hit there! Hi there! You've probably found your way around quite well but if you have any questions just click on reply or click on my name and leave a message. Personally I recommend a visit to the H2G2 Space Centre where you'll find all sorts of interesting things, including the Cheshire Grin Inn and my humble junk shop. If you need any other pointers then just get in touch as ACEs (assistant community editors)are here to help

Thanks for the Welcome.
Although no ACE (other than yourself) has stopped by my page to say "Hi", I have been in contact with other ACEs asking questions about the site, but I'm still gald to see you stop by.
Since you're here, do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions?
Do you know when there will be an option to delete a journal entry? I'd use it more often if I could delete stuff from it. I'd propable use it for rough drafts and such, and delete the journal entries once they reached their final stage and became guide entries. In the meantime, I don't use it much 'cause I don't want my reasearcher page to get filled with junk and spam of my creating.
There's currently a "Who's Online" feature on this site (if you're using the Alabaster skin). Is there anything in the works in the works for an "Email this Researcher" button on the Researcher pages. Perhaps with an option to turn it on/off from My Details/Preferences?
Again, Thanks for stopping by.

OK - I don't think there is any proposal to allow deletion of journal entries but for any matter like this it's best to contact Peta - there's a link on the front page or the aces page. That way you can see if anyone else jumps on your idea and the powers that be can judge the demand. I don't think they'd be too keen to include emails within the supplied settings as generally the line is that they want people to stay on site as long as possible and this may encourage people to go off site. Whilst we're on the subject you can email me on [email protected] and it'll be forwarded. Also they don't encourage people to give out email on site because of security issues.
I think the reason they don't allow deletion is to ensure that the system does not get clogged up - I mean we'd all get lazy if we could delete stuff, as it is you either don't care what it's like or you think about it first. Remember to use the preview button-it can save a lot of embarrassment as I have realised to my cost.

Hey Androyd,
I've been poking around the site and on the Don't Panic page (http://www.h2g2.com/dontpanic#8.0) it says "You cannot currently edit or delete Journal Entries, though we will be adding this functionality very soon." I was just wondering if maybe you've heard anything more about it or put in a good word for it to the powers that be. Maybe I should should start a Forum about it and see how much support the Forum gets. Maybe that'll encourage the change to take place.
I understand what you're saying about being careful and using the preview button, but sometimes stuff just gets outdated and it'd be nice to be able to get rid of it. Also, some people arent' careful about using the preview button and mistakes get made. I wouldn't want a plotch of ugliness on my page due to an error. And, being able to delete entries would reduce the amount of memory being used by the site's database by getting rid of stuff no one wants any more.
Watch for my Forum posting, but I'll probably end up saying the same stuff there when I start it.

PS - Any tips on how to use a fixed width font so that I can use my ascii art signature here on h2g2? I've experimented with my Researcher page, but haven't been successful yet.

What you need to do is go ask Bruce at the GuideML clinic. He is a very nice person who answers everyone promptly and actually knows about these things. Two very useful assets. Oh and he's very friendly.
It does strike me that they really don't seem too fussed about redundant space though I think the whole thing is taking off so fast there's just too much to think about and wasting space obviously isn't currently a priority. THe rumour is that a new quick upgrade is planned for very soon to put right some of the worst elements of the new upgrade (yes upgrade of upgrade) I'll post a query in the Aces forum about edit/delete in Journal entries and get back to you.

This quote from Peta in response to the query:
"We've got a huge long list of features that we want to add. Editing Journal entries isn't high up on the list, because it will add little in the way of functionality. It's a convenient thing to be able to do, but there are lots of things that I'd rather see first. So one day, perhaps, but let us add
the really juicy new features on first..."
So that's the official line, other ACES seem divided on the issue.
Hope this helps you.

Hiya Phoenix
Thanks for your kind welcome into this lovely little comunity of DA-lovers and those who recognize the digits 4 and 2 more easily than the rest of those other silly useless numbers.
Well then I shall continue my quest for the answer to my very own pounding question of the most oversung song on the planet Earth.
It's good to hear from you.
Onward and upward and enjoy a fulfilling life with towels.

Hi, you checked out my site and now I'm checking out yours. I was looking through your forum and I saw you wanted help on fixed width fonts. I know that the [fixed-width stuff] tends to fix that. Also if you have more than one space side by side, [multi-spaced stuff] outside the key helps. I hope this helps.
Oh yeah, and for no important reason I'd like to mention I'm from Canada.

Greetings
Thanks for stopping by my page. I'm always happy to have visitors.
Thanks for the and suggestions. I'll give them a try and see how things work out. I've been wanting to use my ascii signature here on H2G2, but whenever I've tried it so far the spacing never seems to work out quite right. I'll let you know how it works out.
You wouldn't happen to know if this or stuff would work in forum postings do you? If not, do you know another method I might try? Thanks in advance for any additional input you may have.

Thanks for stopping by. Please feel free to come back anytime.
Any progress on your musical quest? Once you've found your answer, perhaps you should write a Guide Entry on it. In your quest you'll probably come across multiple theories and historical information that might make a pretty good entry. Plus, if you write an entry about it, it'll save yer fellow hitchhiker's the trouble of searching for the same information.
