Well, we don't have to worry about financing tuition at NYU. She didn't make the cut. They had 34,000 applicants for 4,000 spots. smiley - bigeyes And she had applied to one of the most selective divisions where less than 200 freshman slots are available.

So she is quite happy to be going to a school where she received 1/3 the $18,000 cost in merit scholarship which means the rest of us can still afford to eat while she gets her education. smiley - ok

Thanks, Marv.

I think I am more disappointed that she is.

There are two sides to every coin. I've never been in the situation of attending a really prestigious university, but I would imagine that the pressure to succeed and to impress your peers and professors would be tremendous. I bet she'll actually enjoy her university experience more than she would have at NYU.

You are absolutely right, Hyp. The school she will attend has nice large dorm rooms and very good food. She qualifies for upgraded housing because of her Scholar status. Academically, it is rated 'competitive'. She'll get a decent education along with some nice creature comforts.

Good food? I take it she's not going to your alma mater?

Did you hear that the dining hall caught fire last semester? We were quite hopeful that it would need to be razed, but it turns out it is built of steel-reinforced concrete just like the hamburgers.

I did see the fire on the news. It brought back fond memories of the grill at Douglass. smiley - winkeye I couldn't get her to even consider Rutgers, let alone Douglass.

Ramapo is very smart. They found out how to attract kids that have never had to share a room and were raised on fast food. The cafeteria is set up like a mall food court. I hope that the academic departments are half as innovative and she actually learns something useful there.

NYU is $40K a SEMSTER!???.... Or.... woah....

Regardless... WOW....

I'm considering two grad schools in Chicago... but my degree may change... I know I MUST do writing, and I want it to be creative... emphasis on poetry... but journalism is not to be overlooked, either.

Maybe a double masters... it's not like I could use all that money for anything else exciting. smiley - tongueoutsmiley - silly

Good luck to your daughter... I didn't catch what she's going to study in the backlog....

*Hands Dragonfly an smiley - oj Slurpee*

It's $43,000 per year, not semester... but still outrageous.

She wants to be an event planner, so she'll do some type of business major. Probably marketing or administration.
