right: here we go. I went to w**k really early yesterday, because I'm busy and had to leave on time for a school function.

and promptly on arrival at 7:30 slammed my right index finger in the car door. OW!!! I ran up to our office in the hope that we had some sort of ice pack (we have a really spiffy LG fridge) - luckily we did. My fingernail was filling with blood and it hurt like anything. Said hi to the Korean guy who was there and promptly fainted into a chair. After I came round I had a minute where I didn't have a clue where I was. Sat for a while feeling dizzy, then fainted again.

What a wimp!!

I didn't think it was worth a trip to the doc or hospital, so I sat for a while (about 3 hours in total) trying to work clutching ice packs to my hand. While they were refreezing I had ice pops on there instead (yep, we're very grown up & sophisticated in our office)

Eventually, with a freally fat painful finger, I went to get the gruesomes. Gruesome #2had a reading night at school, with a BBQ first. After that Gruesome #1 and I went to the emergency doc, who very carefully (and without hurting me) made two holes in my fingernail - "since it's going to fall off anyway" - by this time the whole nail was black and it was really throbbing). The relief was almost instant. Then I was given a massive bandage.

this moning it's not too bad - but I can't type properly, and I'm slowly realising just how much we use our index fingers!

Mothers never get time off to recover do they?

It's funny - all the girlies at work couldn't understand why I insisted on the Gruesome schoolthing first, and the fact that I was worried the doc would take too long and ruin the promised mummy/Gruesome#1 evening I'd promised her

Then all you have to do is re-grow the fingernail.
