I have nothing against accounting - truth be told the training I did in the army was as an Analyst (of what, you have to guess and I am a natural beancounter anyway) but what I really didn't want was the whole month-end/month beginning crap since all my housemates have their birthdays on the last day of their respective months (one is 31st December) and I'd be verboten from taking any time off then.

Nothing worse than silence from HR. I've had a job for two months but no work yet - they haven't even given me a start date! And I know, from other people working there, that they're badly understaffed...
Hope for the best, but get your CV out there, I suppose. I don't assume you can simply book those birthdays off well in advance?

no chance to get time off - you know from past rants that they expect insane overtime at month end, and there is nothing like having enough people to cover it, or telling the HQ to stop being unreasonable
(but if I have to go, I might sick the Berufsgenossenschaft on them during a month end...)

and of course, the real slap? first they told me they didn't want to lose me from the sales team to the accounting and I am too valuable etc etc...

Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Posted Jul 5, 2012
Are they hiring two newbies and at the same time letting two others go? Sounds impossible (as in illegal) to me. What do the unions have to say about this? If it happened here you would at the very least be awarded damages - under normal circumstances anyway

I think there's no dice there because the newbies will, indeed, be working in Turkey.
but when I get an email from my boss, or the HR boss, I will be straight on to my union (because, guess what? we don't have a betriebsrat)

my dearest wish would be that the union says "we've negotiated a pay off for you and it's a month's salary for each year you've worked there"
everyone press your thumbs please...
