Sho - employed again! Started conversation Mar 3, 2012
so another thread about something that I'd like to talk about is invaded by the poster from the land of verbal diarrhoea and so I have to leave.
I am getting so sick of the pontificating it might force me to stay in my journal.

I know that feeling too well. I don't know which thread you're talking about, but that's probably best not be named.

Actually, there's been a few interesting subjects in Ask recently, that I've wanted to get involved in, but I haven't found the time. It's annoying.

the poster is Cass and this one was the post birth abortion one.
Every thread he goes in he just post reams and reams of boring crap and I'm sick of it. Occasionally he makes an interesting comment but I just can not be bothered to plough through it. Patronising pontificating carp.

A pontificating carp would be an interesting pet. I'd keep him in a big tank in the kitchen, and he could join in conversations. Of course we'd learn to ignore him if he got too definitive, and you should ignore such people too.

Ah, I unsubscribed from that one fairly early on. Sorry you can't just ignore his posts.

It's struck me before that his posts are like playing six degrees of separation. Can you get from harmonicas to Queen Elizabeth I in six steps or fewer?

I think it was Macauley who said, when talking about the Corn Laws of 1832 whose origins can be traced back to the 'Commonweal'...

You do have a tendency to play that game yourself, Edward. I'm sure you've been told that a lot of what you say goes over people's heads.

Yes, but, at least when Ed says it and it goes over my head that's usually because he's talking about something I know nothing about (eg, films or books I've never heard of) AND it's usually relevant to the thread AND it's usually quite short.
Whereas I have two bl**dy history degrees (and have not forgotten all the content of them) and I've now given up even skim-reading Cass's posts. I just skip them. The rest of the conversation usually makes sense.

I find it difficult to get over his posts because it's getting like a red rag to a bull.
Ed's long posts sometimes make me glaze over too, but I can skim them because I know that elsewhere, he's making shorter, interesting, relevant posts.
Anyway: end with a song
