Sho - employed again! Started conversation Jan 13, 2010
that and I had our first... ahem... date.
We got married on Bob Dylan's birthday that year. And here we still are. Not much changes. As I write this he's watching and I'm reading.
Not sure what I was reading back then - probably LOTR. Or something about the Soviet Union. (not much change at all then, since I'm currently reading a biography of Stalin.
As for title, I've mentioned before, I think, that and I already knew each other vaguely. But it was late on a Sunday evening. I was in the bar, and I'd just put DM 5 in the jukebox (12 songs for that, I think) and had picked out all but one. He came walzing in with a Spiesbraten (wouldn't share, the git) and pushed me aside with the immortal chat up line
"Let me choose, you'll only pick something girly"
But I won out and picked Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile) which was the b-side of The Reflex by Duran Duran. He was, by the way, suitably impressed with my not at all girly selection (it was 1985 and I like rock - but it was a Junior Ranks Club Jukebox so it would have been the usual mix of rubbish and Blanket on the Ground. There is - or was - some law that decreed that Blanket on the Ground must be on EVERY jukebox in a British Military Installation)
Anyway, the long and the short of it: when Come Up And See Me came on, we'd been chatting over a pint or six, and the next thing I knew the chat up line had become more cliché
"Do you want to come back to my room and listen to the original, I've got a live version"
A live Double LP of Steve Harley? How could a girl refuse?!

Yes, I should check him out, too. Especially if he's responsible for bringing two lovely people together.
I love hearing about how people meet!!

Remarkably, that's one of the few DD songs that I *don't* have!
If you ever get your record player mp3 thing working, can you make one for me?

It's a bit sad that the song (Steve Harley version) is being used on one of those furniture ads at the moment (I can't remember which one - I hope it's not the one where they all put their feet on the sofas still in their shoes)
Anyone else want to shar a "how we met" story?
My Dear RF - I can get it in mp3 format that's absolutely no problem (the record player does that.
Do you want both sides?
Are you going to dress up as John Taylor while listening to it?
And how do you want it?

I have the 12" version of The Reflex already (it's on this album http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Versions ) so it's just the b side I'm after.
Sadly, I no longer have the clothes (or the mullet) to prance around like John Taylor. My air bass playing is pretty good, though.
How do I want it? Is it too large to email me an mp3? If so, I guess on CD will be the preferred route.
And a big
Love and slobbery

My better half once babysat my two older daughters when they were 6 and 4.
They did such unspeakable things to him that he and I didn't get together until six years later...
I still consider him a very brave man.

I've met two of them, but may I guess that the two I've met aren't the two in question, Yarreau?

Well, if you're going to do a CD, you'd better fit as much of Steve Harley on it as you can!
Email on its way.

That's right, Sho, you've met only one of them. The Sistabarista wasn't born at that time.
But knowing the one is probably enough to give you an idea... she was the ringleader anyway.
The next day I asked her what they had done to the poor guy; she told me all about it and then broke down in tears, crying: "We were so meeeaaan..."

RF!!! it's dot DE
sorry!
and never fear, my capacity for spreading the Coldplay word knows no bounds
but you can have a best of Steve Harley to make up for it if I haven't managed to digitise the live one.
