The thing about other people letting Gabriel make them 'sound like him' is that... if that's not how they want to sound then they either have to:

a) stop asking him to produce their music

or

b) grow some and tell him they don't like it


His voice, especially on things like the Carpet Crawlers and Digging in the Dirt - heck even Solsbury Hill - makes my spine tingle. Pity he looks a lot like my uncle now, so I have had to stop fancying him.

Well in Yooussou N'Dour's case...I guess it was a justifiable career move. WOMAD and Gabriel introduced him to a European audience.

But I prefered his earlier stuff. Especially 'Immigres'

I can take it or leave it.

Currently I'm working through my John Mellencamp (in all his various guises) on my iPod while I flog myself round the gym at lunchtime.

Now there is a guy with a sexy voice, a lot to say and a fantastic way of saying it.
and I used to fancy him something rotten.
