A Conversation for The Euler Equation

I'm not sure about the maths behind it (it was a few years back) but the spherical geometry needed to describe the motion of plates on a sphere (ie continental plates on the earth) is generally described using a Euler pole and a rotation velocity. IE the plate is moving as if the entire sphere was moving around an axis of rotation that intersects the Euler poles. It is a very simple way to describe a fairly complex movement (especially when you are talking about a few plates/plate boundaries)
