I always update my journal when I'm feeling blue and end up moaning, well today, instead, I am dropping a quick happy note smiley - smiley

I was given a box of chocolates smiley - choc at work today from a patient for being nice and doing a good job.

smiley - blush

I had to do a frankly torturous test for the DVLA on her, we gave a few shots because she hadn't been well, and because we looked after her (and I was the one doing the testing) she brought chocolates in to say thank you.

Saw them on my desk this morning and thought they'd been put there while there was a big clean out being done next door (patients sometimes bring up boxes of stuff to say thank you) so figured they were from Christmas. But they weren't and I've now been instructed to "get them open!"

Typical, first time I'm given chocolates by someone outside my family and it's an 80 year old lady instead of a handsome young man smiley - laugh

Hi Emsmiley - biggrin

I see you have patients nowsmiley - prof I remember we chatted a while back about your chance to study optometry, did you follow that road, or choose another path?

I always enjoy hearing from my favourite Scottish Lass, the best I can do for now is a virtual smiley - choc and smiley - rose maybe a smiley - smooch on the cheeksmiley - blush

Good to hear you are well and had a good day!

Maybe some day I can offer to buy you a dinner.

I don't have patients, my dad does, the practice does...I'm just a lacky. I've spent this week staring at one spread sheet. How fancy!

I never did pursue optometry, dispensing or otherwise. I still think about it, but frankly if working in the office there makes me this miserable on top of the depression, I really don't want too. There are nice parts of my job, but mostly I hate it.

I honestly have no idea what to do with my life. Something creative, something where I can make things, but I'm a coward. I am a coward and I have no confidence and I can't seem to push myself towards finding something do with my skill set.

It's never going to happen. I'd be better getting a job in Hobbycraft.

The way I feel at the moment, I just want to curl up in my bed and watch box sets of telly, but my bedroom looks like a bomb's hit it...it's 10ft sq and has nearly 29 years of crap in it...frankly it would be better if someone just lit a match and the whole lot went up.

I fear I may go silent on you guys again for a while, so don't worry, I'm okay, just not wanting to go into a moaning self pity posting spiral.

smiley - hug

Hi Em, sorry your so smiley - sadface

You probably need an adventure!

You are one of the first Researchers I put on my Friends list back in 2003.

Why don't you fly over here for a week or two?

I would be happy to put you up and show you my world. You would be among people you will never have to see again, so there will be no need to be shy.

It might be fun, we have a swimming pool, clubhouse and other activities. You can be the exotic girl from over the ocean and everyone will want to meet you.

I still go off to W*rk every day but my wife and dachshund will be happy to see you are entertained.

If you think you might like to I'll post my contact information on an entry I can update so it wont be posted here forever.

smiley - laugh exotic! Are ghostly pale, non-Scottish sounding Scots what goes for exotic where you are?

Kind offer dear, so thank you. But I do not posses a passport and while adventuring would be nice, I want to save them for the future, when I'm settled enough to enjoy them.

Sounds counter intuitive doesn't it? Seeing adventuring could move me forward and allow me to meet someone, but I've waited this long, might as well wait until it feels like the right time.

That and all my spare cash goes into my savings, that way, if I ever decide to go back to uni, or try and start my own business I'm able to do it myself.

What I really need, is a kick up the smiley - bleep

If you come here 'ghostly pale' I am certain we can fix that, we know how much of our sun you can take at a time and have creams to protect you from the full effect of our bright sunsmiley - cool

I'm not sure how Scottish a proper Scott should sound (I do know that fellow on the old Star Trek and a few actors trying to be MacBethsmiley - biggrin). As long as you don't sound like someone from Chicago or Quebec you will be exotic enough for the locals.smiley - smiley

I'm sure you can get a passport over the next few months. We are approaching our hot season now, so I would recommend you think about October or November. If you want to wait until December I have to warn you that we have a strict family rule that anyone who believes in Santa Clause gets a lot more presents than those who don't. Your choicesmiley - shrug

Our home owner rules limit guests to a maximum of thirty days in any calender year, we would really love for you to enjoy as many of them here as you can. I am willing to bet that I can teach you more about yourself - Life, the Universe and Everything in a few weeks here, than you could learn in an other 4 years of University. I did not make my offer lightly, all you need to do is arrange your own air fare (should be about 1,000 pounds) and passport. Nothing worthwhile is freesmiley - headhurts

And what makes you think I can't kick you in the smiley - bleep! if you need it?

No no! I like being pale! I'd be happier if I was paler actually, like my sisters. It is pale and interesting after all smiley - smiley

I don't think I don't sound Scottish, but having been born a Scot, lived here my entire life, I don't sound as Scottish as I should. I get constantly asked if I am English, American, Canadian, Australian or basically anywhere other than here...it's really annoying, especially when I tell people I've lived on the East coast of Scotland my whole life and they basically turn round an go, smiley - nahnah "nah you're defininitly "

I blame being put into speech therapy classes in primary school.

Anyway, dear you are incredibly sweet offering, but I am going to decline. Bad as things seem, they're a means to an end and that end needs to be worked out and sorted here, because that's where my family are and they're the most important people in my life. And as much as they drive me insane, I need them while I work my smiley - bleep out too.

Whatever that is.

But thank you for your offer, you're lovely smiley - hug

let me see, your a 29 year old Scottish woman who likes having an 'as pale as ghost' complexion, and doesn't talk like a Scott, and you don't think your exoticsmiley - facepalm

Most people who come to Florida in the winter try to get a tan as quickly as possible so they can show it off when they get back home. My wife always had problems with being in the sun, and when she was younger strangers used to ask her where she came from up north? She is doing a bit better these dayssmiley - biggrin

I did not mean to pressure you, I was probably being a bit selfish, I only have my wife to spoilsmiley - blush We never had any children of our own, but we did have a niece come and live with for an entire year when she was about twelve or so.

I think primary school speech therapy causes more problems than it clears up. How can a child hope to be well adjusted in a group if the adults tell them they can't talk right? It is no wonder they become shy and introverted. Been there, done that!smiley - ghost

I would really like to hear and see you sometime. My new laptop has that 'Skype' thing but I haven't learned how to use it yetsmiley - sadface Have you ever used one of those video chat rooms? No matter, take care and let me know if you change your mind.

smiley - cheers
