The First Crusade Project
Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Mar 15, 2010
I've finished writing the First Crusade project now, but I'd really like some people to read the entries before they're passed over to you for subbing.
When the Eds were reviving the University, I pestered them to include Peer Review in the process, but they put it in after the sub-editing, which means that the Peers can do little except point out typing errors. It's too late at that stage for major rewrites. I want my Peers to read the story and tell me is it exciting, interesting or boring, if bits are too detailed or not detailed enough and if they enjoyed it. I'll completely rewrite if necessary. There's not much point in doing this after you've put the work in editing it.
I mentioned it in one of my journals but so far have only had a response from Fizzy who's read the first three Entries and enjoyed them. I'll try and drum up a bit more support today.

I see I still have my sub-ed badge so I might as well do this, let me know when they're ready to be handed over to me and I'll ask the Eds for them (or you can)

You did volunteer for this, didn't you? I'm not mis-remembering, I hope.

Yes, in your original journal. But then you said it wasn't written yet, and since then I gave up subbing. But as I said, I will do this, I can't imagine it needing much work, I'll only be nursing it through PR & attending to typos.

I've submitted the Project Page A63492447 to the University.

<> (I have changed that to "medium-length" toavoid confusion with the shade...)
<> are the peasants the ordinary people? If so shouldn't it be:
His group consisted mainly of ordinary people (peasants), but there were quite a few knights.

Thanks; Gb! I'm in Paris trying to type on an AZERTY keyboqrd!
I believe Bohemond hqd medium-blond hair which was also medium in length, but I'll check when I get home. I'll also check about why he did not inherit the throne - it involvled his mother's mqrriqge being anulled because she was too closely related to his father.
I thought the sentence about peasants was clear enough; but your version is just as good.

No worries
You enjoy your holiday
We can thrash these out when you return, I doubt I'll have it in PR anytime soon, anyway. Have a great time!
Carry on subbing

That's the first mention of Stephen in this entry, is it Stephen of Blois?

I know the Church of the Holy Sepulchre venerates the place where Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected. I suggest we footnote that sentence on the first mention of the Church, then lose the two different "the site of..." in your text, what do you think?

I forgot to mention A63492320 is subbed apart from EGE links and I'm now subbing A63492339 Antioch
The previous query above came about due to my spell-checker not liking the word "Jesus's" and me slapping in the link to our Jesus entry in the EG

Coming back, A63492339 has been modded, and I've had an email from the Mods saying that it contravenes the house rules.
While it's sorted out, I'll leave the editing and move onto the next one

It had already been hidden for consideration by the Editors, and it was subseauently unhidden again, without me ever receiving an e-mail, so I assume they looked at it and found it OK.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was supposedly the site of the burial and resurrection, but it wouldn't have been the site of his death. I don't like putting things in footnotes, so just explain it the first time and don't mention it the other time.
