I take it you are a Berliner (and not a Doughnut as in the famous JFK quote). I was in Berlin the summer after the wall came down. I would love to go back someday and see all the new and restored buildings.

This place is big and growing all the time so here are some good places to get started.

Visit the ACEs homepage where their are some good links as well as some idea of what the site is all about. http://www.h2g2.com/A214796
Also go over to the Newcomers page http://www.h2g2.com/A5752 for further advise.

If there is anything you really want to know about click on the categorisation box in the top right corner of the front page or try the search box above.

Share and enjoy as you move around, and and questions just shout.

Hi DD

I'm from Northern Ireland and I was travelling across Europe in a Ford Transit bus at the time.

hey!!! i know northern ireland as well. i visited derry (or do you want me to call it londonderry?) in the year of '94. i was travelling around by bike which was big fun - especially by visiting the indipendent hostels in muff and dunfanaghy (hopefully i spelled this one right...). i really love ireland, it's a great place to be, expect the weather! but most of the people are pretty friendly, so it was a good journey!

My father is from Derry/Londonderry City or as one of the Local DJs calls it Stroke City. Which is poignant on two counts. smiley - smiley

Yes that journey was good I have covered a fair ammount of Europe in my travels. Berlin at that time was a city of stark contrasts, the divide was still very clear and sudden.

now the situation has changed. it's difficult to see what was former west and what was the eastern part of the city. but i think this is o.k. - even since i'm not a patriot.
exept the public transport berlin is not to bad. especially during the summer this city seems to smile sometimes. later on i'm going to write an entry about the city-train which i actually love. and there are a couple of spots, for example parks and lakes which make the living here acceptable.
it's a different thing about winter.
