Computer connection problems again...

only this time caused by my ISP, whose Modem Lock is protecting me from rogue diallers by completely barring me from getting online at all smiley - erm.

It's design far outstrips the rogue dialler I had, that was easy to find and get rid of compared to this smiley - cross.

Until it's sorted, I'm only here when on breaks at work. Any attempt to reconfigure or uninstall leads to the pc hanging.

Waz (feeling very non-pc)

Dang! smiley - hug

Isn't it amazing how addicted we all are to our PC's. I went from 'I don't want one of them in the house' to 'can't live without one' in a big hurry.

Dang with bells on! smiley - wah And this the couple of weeks this year that I *really* need to email work home. I was counting on it. Will have to come in over the weekend if it's not sorted out for tomorrow.

you can download emails at librarys, nothing to stop you downloading it on to disc and working on it at home,
even upload via some librarys or internet cafes.

There is, however, something very funny to me about the fact that you are now perfectly protected from rogue dialers smiley - laughsmiley - blush

I really hope you can get it sorted out soon Waz. Deep sympathy, nice food and drink, good books, and a computer expert have been telepathically sent to you. If you fail to recieve them I do apologise, but I didn't get a proof of sending so probably won't get a refund smiley - cheerup

It'd need to be floppy disks, ltp, I wonder how many it would actually take? With not using them in a while, the spreadsheets have just grown and grown...

There's something very funny about the fact that one of British Telecom's first pieces of advice, when I had the rogue dialler, was to have my phone barred to premium rate calls. Seemed sensible, so I did.

And promptly barred myself from ringing BT's technical help line, which is, yes, a premium rate number. It takes 24 hours to get the line barred, or unbarred.

Anyway, I finally managed to put BT's ModemLock and Watchdog in the bin and fixed up a manual dialler, (obviously Kat's telepathic expertise must have got through). The pc's a bit cranky and slow but, touch wood, it's all working.

So, when I've finished all the food, drinks and books, I'll be back...smiley - smiley
