We've run out of coaches, apparently. Local radio's calling for spares from Herefordshire, Staffordshire and Wales.

What self-respecting team drops the "Gay" handle when it moves to a new ground?

I know a guy who completed his list of all (then) 92 league grounds visited at Gay Meadow. This in spite of growing up in Newcastle-under-Lyme, which is what, 30 miles away?

Gay Meadow is 100% of my list of league grounds visited.

The new ground is being called, wait for it, New Meadow.

Ought to be the Ex Meadow, the Ex-Greenfield-Site Meadow.



Anyway. Latest story, courtesy of local radio, is that the team need a new set of strip for Saturday's trip. Because last time they wore the red & black strip, they stripped off their strip and chucked both shirts _& shorts_ parts of said strip into the crowd.

Shropshire came back blue from Wembley .

Still, maybe for the best, it's the natural colouring round here. Even Telford and Wrekin Council have succumbed. This may be the start of Telford's acceptance in Shropshire at long last. They will cease to be a red hole in the middle - for the next three years anyway.

This Sunday the Gay Meadow is auctioned off.

Up for grabs are dugouts, turnstiles, crowd safety barriers, curtains (Boardroom), a door (away dressingroom), flags, goal posts, a tap ...

Lot 47 is a saving kit, ie rope, lifebelt and a fishing net.

That kit took over from the coracle. Progress I suppose.

They certainly won't need either anymore.

It had a sort of charm to have a football ground where the balls got kicked into the river and had to fetched out by a man in a boat.
