Hi LLWaz
Read your post (number 55 on h2g2 thread), clicked on the link and arrived at "The Circle". Not quite sure how this applies to GW - scrolled down and looked at the subjects on offer, none seems to fit the bill to replace GW.
In the thread, your post 55, you mention that we can open a new group. How? Where? On the Circle site?
Bit confused, sorry,
Clarissa

"Create an entry, fill it like anneymouse did on the MS site, spread the address amongst writers.
Basic part is you have to do it, the writers, we are asked not to encourage.
Though you can always ask. . . "

Hi Clarissa, I think I've just added to the confusion. I should have kept away.
The Circle was only meant to be an example of how a forum can be set up to discuss a specific set of topics. It doesn't relate to writing at all I know. But a set of pages like that could. Just for illustration; you could have a page called "The Writers' Room" with links to pages for Poetry, Comedy, Play writing, how to write dialogue, how to pace a story, whatever you like.
The point, as TIT is saying, is that it's created by the members of the site. Which is both good and bad. It takes effort, on the other hand it's independent.

Hi LLLWAZ,
Thanks for that. We go over to h2g2 - start a page/group, spread the word around GW and hope for the best!
Goodness knows how we'll get that done... Someone clever with PCs etc. may pick up on this thread, hopefully, and start it out. Then the other "writerly" group could set up the different pages and links...
I SHALL have a go but as I said above, I am a complete dead loss...
Still in nappies as far as computing goes but way out of pre-school!
Thanks again,
Clarissa

Don't tell him I told you but I believe Jodan had a hand in setting up The Circle pages
... and I think I heard him offer to help on the other thread...
Or TIT there is whiz with the coding needed.
Everything's in straightforward text on GW isn't it. You would need to be in h2g2 to do this I think.
I sympathise with you in trying to get to grips with how these sites work. I had it easier being here early on and watching it grow.
You do at least have some time to organise don't you - GW will be there until April. That's three or four months.
Two tips: Such pages can have shared access. You can share the username and password via email, that way the work of setting them up can be shared.
Also, if you type test in place of the A number in the address bar for a page you can see the coding used for it. Then copy/paste and edit it to what you want.
Must go - first Christmas party of the season tonight.

You're welcome, and I did .
Listen, I was thinking but didn't have time earlier to say that my advice is not to rush things. Give it a few weeks for the respective staff to mull over, one thing I'm certain of is that they will be trying to help though they may have little scope to do so.
You could use that time to familiarise yourself with h2g2, then you'll be in a better position to decide what you want to do.
