How strange the world is. I basically have two types of work that I can do at the moment. One is employed work. I'm not hugely picky, but I do need it to pay me enough money to live on. I am currently looking for an opportunity to do such work.
In the mean time there is writing, which I love. I will happily leap on more or less any opportunity anyone will give me to do writing. Hence I am doing this even though I don't really have time. I don't need money to do writing (although I am happy to accept it) but anyone who will give me an audience to test the words on is most appreciated. Well opportunities for this are all over the place. Apart from H2G2 my main medium is BBC Radio 4 extra, who broadcast numerous shows with an 'open door' policy, which means they will accept scripts submitted by anyone, will read them and may broadcast them if they are good enough and sometimes even pay you. Actually, they usually pay you. Which is brilliant.
The reason I bring this up today is that today saw the arrival in my inbox of an e-mail about the british comedy guide's first comedy conference at the end of November. As a result of my redundancy I was available for the day and as a result of my redundancy money I was able to justify the cost of the ticket and the cost of getting there, so I am going and I am hyper excited. Today I got a provisional list of the events and had to chose which ones I wanted to be at. I am delighted that I will be able to see all the people I was most keen to see and at plenty of times I will not need to chose either or because there is only one sessions running at a time. And I will get a chance to pitch my script to some poor unfortunate again and I may even get the chance to get one-one advice on it from a professional.
Screw work, this is brilliant.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
