h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The cast for the three main kids has been announced: Harry is played a fairly unknown ( British ) actor who played the young David Copperfield on T.V last year. Chris Columbus told a similar story to M Night Shaylam when they found Haley Joel Osment for "The Sixth Sense" - that they'd seen loads and loads of kids, but then Dan ( as is his name ) walked in and "We knew we had found our Harry". Hermonie looks great too, if a little too pretty ( but, hey, it's a movie - what can you do? ), but the guy play Ron looks more than perfect. Do these kids realise that there's gonna be action figures made of them?

Chris Columbus was responsible for inflicting Home Alone on us ( do we have to put up with Snape slipping around on ice? ) but it might not be all bad, as he was co-writer and producer of "Young Sherlock Holmes and the Pyramid of Fear", which, frankly, is the closest we've seen yet to a Harry Potter type film.

Unconfirmed: Maggie Smith as McGongual, Alan Rickman ( no, really ) as Snape, Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, Richard Harris as Dumbledore.

Personally, I would have liked to have seen Caroline Quentin or Pru Scales as McGonguall, Billy Connolly as Hagrid, and Peter O'Toole as Dumbledore. But you can't have everything.

And I know we're not allowed to have Amercians in the thing, but if we did, there's one I can suggest for Quirrel: David Hyde-Pierce..

And another small point:

In at least three of the books, Harry's mother appears as some sort of image - be it as a reflection of a memory in a magical mirror, or in a bewitched photo album. Now, I know that would only be a very small role, but it's exactly that which makes the casting of it so important.

And to play Lily Potter? It can only be: J.K Rowling...

Being thick i'm having a slight problem here. Can someone please remind me who Quirrel is? dont all hit me at once, i just read book for and my mind exploded.

i thought margret thatcher might be quite good. or maybe billy connelly in very excited mode as he didnt get picked for hagrid.
