h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

just got back from seeing the chamber of secrets.......was totally brill, better than the book anbd better than the first film.

what did you guys all think?

i know this topic somewhat overlapps with existing discussion, but i just wanted to say that i'd managed to see the film! and not on DVD when my brother buys it either!

I liked it so much more than the first film (which was frankly disappointing at the time, and still a bit crap though fun in a Sunday Afternoon film kind of way)
Mind you, the new film is also a bit Sunday Afternoon-ish.
I got sick of the Quidditch chasing round and round the stands bit - couldn't they have had more action in the middle, and polished off with Harry grabbing the snitch behind Malfoy's ear with out the pod-race-esque finale?

Also missed Fred and George's "Mind out, Heir of Slytherin. Seriously Evil Wizard coming through" line, which is one of my favourites. Just highlights that the films are not and never will be a patch on the books. But a lot of fun - and Kenneth Branagh and Jason Isaacs were fantastic.

isaccs and branner was ace.

fred and george are my favourite characters in the books, but they dont even feature on my radar when it comes to the film. pity...really wasted opportunity.

Ah... did you stay in the cinema until the end of the credits? If you didn't you missed almost the best Branagh piece of the whole film!

Jason Isaacs was Lucius Malfoy, right? He was amazing. Nice to see Mark Williams from The Fast Show as Arthur Weasley as well!

yes we stayed till the end, and it was a good scene.

someone said to me today that they suspected lockhart will turn up again later in the books. i hope so.

i thought branner played him extremely well. he somehow wasnt as annoying as in the book so i wasnt cringing, but he was still the same character.



one thing i didnt like though, was the parseltongue. i thought that was quite badly done

I didn't - the end credits scene knowledge hadn't got around when I went to see it - going again this weekend though, so will wait!

I liked the parseltongue myself, I thought it was quite effective, even if it did all sound the same.

i think i would have liked it better if there hadnt been so many closeups of harrys lips with the lipsinc. being slightly out.

what i really loved about the movie were ron's facial expressions.
just think of this look of his, when they are in the forbidden forest and he sees all those spiders and says:> Can we panic now???<
seriously, i love that!
but by the way: what was the name of that spider queen?

Not sure about "queen" - it gives the distinct impression of being male - but it's definitely called Aragog.

Aragog is the big male spider that does the talking - he does have a "wife" - he says Hagrid found him a mate, dunno her name though.
