A Conversation for LIL'S ATELIER

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

Welcome to the atelier! If you haven't been here before, do please announce your arrival at the foyer, after you have had a look at A304354.

We had no scribe and your hostess is increasingly distracted by reality-based reality. But we have managed to do a quick, very quick, reprise of events in the most recent thread. We are happy to extend a formal welcome to three new salonistas, LibrarianPear, Tod, and Jollywinegums. If Tod or Jolly turn out to be a librarian, then the conspiracy might as well be made public. Gnomon reappeared after a long absence (nabbing the FTTF mug in the process), as did Little Miss Nicky.

The chiefest event of that time period was certainly the Presidential Progress of Hypatia through the southern UK. A lot of old friends met face-to-face for the first time, and many marvelous plants were photographed.

I am happy to award at least one prize. This is for FG, for having launched the Atelier Fruit Bowl at post 1245. *Chloe gives FG a golden compote bowl inscribed '8C - 1245'* It was an excellent thing and I hope it persists.

A lightning-fast time trip through the last thread reveals salonistas caught in the act of discussing...
favorite pubs (PWM)
improperly sesquipedalian students (MR) (with a great link from Gnomon, to the theory of relativity explained in words of one syllable - http://light-science.com/slosson.html )
hayayfi has a birthday party in the back garden
Spring keeps almost, but not quite, arriving
whether you have ever accidentally bought the same thing twice (lentilla), which topic was probably aced by PWM, who complained about having to buy the (seemingly) same pint over and over.
David B is revealed to own a very erotic torso (and closes a successful performance of Kiss Me Kate)
B4 gives us occasional glimpses of working life at a nuclear reactor, which generates (sorry) interesting comments about alternative power sources (and political consequences)
Hypatia describes Harry Potter security measures
food, the sense of dieting, and that stuff what PWM eats and drinks
railway chaplains
the nature of conflict
most significant religious holiday
lentilla has green hair and a brain lesion
the shopping gene
digital cameras (strangely)
list: what software you have
list: shoes
d'E is flooded
birthday and other saints
earcuffs and piercings
David B is mentioned on national radio (England)
the identity of a certain bookmark is revealed
an earthquake occurs in England, which is mildly unusual
garage sales
most and least favorite birdsongs
meet photos are posted
strangely finally buys that DSLR camera and plays and plays and plays
the entropy of data storage methods
How the heck did I do that? - a catalogue of minor injuries
an innocent mention of postage sends Lil... postal... and eventually jumps the shark
Titania introduces us to ketchup-smearers
Z considers his options for practising abroad, including Doctors Without Borders
GDZ aces a series of exams
wisteria
favorite floral smells
A quiz! - How evil are you? http://home.att.net/~slugbutter/evil/
Estonian politics and regional identity and accents
brass monkeys

smiley - tea

What an excellent and diverse conversation that was. The next one will certainly be at least as interesting. The bots have cleaned the salon and refreshed the coffee urn and the samovar, so let us make ourselves at home. We have most recently been discussing the Eurovision Song Contest (which your hostess hasn't experienced since Clodagh Rogers bounced up and down on her spring), Michael Moore in Cuba, and movies, particularly the Matrix. And now we're discussing "traditional" vs "conventional (drug-based or modern) medicine.

Come on in!

Ooh I'm second.

This is *nice* this not feeling I should be revising. Do some people live like this all the time? How odd.

Actually, a cup of real life tea seems welcome right now.

Discussion about medicine was interesting. I'm glad I stuck my oar in like that.

Mol, you could still post your notes, I don't think anyone will mind.

STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring )

I have question about photo paper for home printers. I use HP top of the range heavyweight paper with a claimed life of a hundred years.
However it has one major fault in that if you touch it with a damp finger it gets marked, the ink comes off on finger and the ink can come off through to white backing paper!
The paper is inkjet, I checked box, it is for HP printers like mine and the only instruction is it should be left for a week before framing or putting in an album. THe damaged print I just re tested with a damp finger is older than a week so I am wondering if all home printing papers are like that?
I just spoke to someone and they have a Konica paper that is waterproof and tearproof, well mine certainly isn't . They said they washed a print under a tap and it was clean after getting dirty, do that with mine and I would have a bowl of inky water!

*runs in all aquiver and dishevelled, in disbelief at making the first LED for the first time ever*

Mol, do, post it.

*flumps on a sofa to catch her breath*

Thank you Lil. That was a very succinct encapsulation of events. made me realise that although I read every single posting throughout (I developed a backlog system especially smiley - silly), I could not recall half of the more interesting events.

All I did was go and make dinner. I come back, everything's clean, the sofa-cushions are plumped, and Matina is giving me a very stern look because I am still clutching last thread's coffee mug.

Mol, do post your notes. Lil's update was wonderful, but very curiosity-provoking. Did we say all that? Wow.

Oh Mol, I'm sorry we didn't connect -- but 2000 posts is the magic number and look how the backlog started to mount up after that! It was move on or die. smiley - erm

But you did all that work, and you certainly deserve recognition. Chloe! Bring up that award! *Chloe trundles forward bearing a deep red quill feather pen set in a base of bloodstone decorated around the edge in a greek key pattern* This award is for Mol, who worked as our scribe in the most recent thread, despite being extremely busy studying for, and passing her PCGE exam.
smiley - rainbow
*hopes she has spelled pcge correctly*

Everyone, please, a belated but enthusiastic round of applause for Mol!
