You must be from upstate, aren't you? As a current New Yorker, I have some defensive talkings:

I can't see how a city can be both known for such a high crime level AND such a strong police presence that people complain. That's an original culture by that fact alone

Who is New York borrowing its culture from? Is that saying that there are no minorities or immigrants to London and Paris? Are we still the Dutch colony we were 200 years ago? I can say that NY isn't like Atlanta or Los Angeles (who simply don't have a culture). The nation, by the way, is an armpit in and of itself

And, yes; depending on what's in it...
