is this site and the AWW still active? - I ask because some of the stuff put up for review (esp in AWW) is over two years old. Also, what becomes of a story after its been edited - is there a list of alternative edited guide entries? Or do they just disappear into a black hole?

Well as you may know AWW is now active because of the UnderGuide.
This site has just gone under a management change, from Peregrin to this joint account ran by myself(Verc) and HPB. We hope to keep the promotion of fiction on h2g2 - so if your interested in posting fiction go right ahead
