h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

This is a tricky one no matter what religion one belong to.

One of two ways are possible - to begin with:

1) God DO exist (in some form).
2) God DO NOT exist (in any form).

If point two is the correct one, everything that we subscribe to 'higher powers (that be)' are in fact the result of - for us humans - incomprehencible mechanisms. What that might be is another story all toggether.

On the other hand, if point one is correct another question must be asked: What is (are ?) god (s) ?

Several of the most common answers are:

1) A sentient being (who rules everythings, and know everything).
2) A driving force which can be found in all matter and energy in the universe - but NOT sentient by it self.
3) The complete whole of all parts - containting all living and not living things in the universe. It is sentient through them.

The most usual question of 'how can evil exist if god exist, and knows all and controlls all ?' is quite interesting.

Many times we humans are very quick to rule what is and what is NOT evil or good. But mostly we both as individuals and collective may not have a clue about the 'big picture'. On a greater scale things might not always be what they seem to be. And besides, very seldom do you absolute good or evil. Only shades of greay missinterpreted. This must sound extremely cynical to a person who suffers from an event that are in the category of evil e.g getting a family member killed by a psyco, war - as such. I do not mean any disrespect to any of these people. But still - their interpretation is a very local one and not very often correct.

This does however not exclude evil from existing.....or does it?

Why then does God - if he/she/it exists - allow for this to happen to the people? Can it be that we - us humans - do not want to accknowledge the bitter fact that our existence are one of great ignorance - in general (and at least on this universal scale of things)?
Or are we simply unkapable of streching our minds that far? Do we have to - really?

Here is a final (fun) question to consider: If God exists and are a sentient being, does not that mean that he/she/it is an Alien? God can not possibly be if Earth origin?
