well it is good to see fencing in a positive light, but how long has the foil weighed 7kg??? and the epee longer??? still a total length of 110cm last i looked anyway.....

and wat about the social aspect of the sport, i mean here in new zealand we is very competitive, but all gather for lotsa drinkies afterwards, and from wat i have seen over seas is the same....food for thought....

Yes. Drinking is an essential part of fencing, esp varsity matches. At my club we had a derelict mask with a funnel fixed through a whole in the front, into which we poured beer or anything else that seemed amusing at the time. (Obviously, someone would be wearing the mask at the time or that would be a waste of beer.) That was fun to watch...

heh sounds like fun, i will remember that one..

we have the occasional torliment where everyone fences the weapon that they do the least, ie so they are at a dissadvantage, and well for every point scored by that fencer has to have a drink, and when they win a bout they have to finnish their vessel. needless to say, those that possess a natural talent for timing or just luck, get quite drunk quite fast, leavinng it open for the lesser fencers to gain hits and hangovers...gets messy in the end, but great fun....

so where abouts r u from??

Currently, Melbourne, Oz. Usually Essex, or Cardiff, or London when I really need the money.

Sounds like a good game. Have you ever tried fencing different weapons in the same fight, left handed, (or right handed for the lefties) and each person only allowed to make hits/parries traditional for the weapon they're holding. Bit of a brainteaser, but can result in really weird injuries! If that was a drinking game, I'd lose bigtime.

No, just travelling. (Great how you can just pick these conversations up after 3 weeks, isn't it?) I would have fenced but (a)too poor and (b)just isn't the same without Saruman, my sabre.

Now in NZ, south island, Christchurch as a matter of fact. And v nice it is too.
