The place to post if you are new and want help. As a service robot I don't quite know everything but I know where to look and who to ask, so feel free to leave a message here.

Here's a question for you just so you don't sit ignored and looking terribly depressed. No wait different droyd.
I'm trying to add a highly snazzy comment to http://www.h2g2.com/beware/of/the/leopard but when I press the discuss this entry button it gives me a "this page cannot be found message." What can I do?
P.S. I know that ACE really stands for Aliens Control Earth. You can't fool me. And can't control me either. I wear tinfoil in my hat. PHHHHHHHHHHHHT!!

2 things to do. Either refresh the page (IE explorer) or just try and do it again. I'll check out the page and see what I get.

Are you using alabaster or classic goo? I went there in goo and clicked on be the first person to talk about this page and it would've let me post I think. However as it is a legal statement page it may be that it can't be discussed and it won't let you post to that page. If that is the case then why not contact peta or abi through the aces home page. Have you activiated your homepage yet so I sna give you links?

Hi androyd!
Thanks for the very warm welcome.. I've too many questions, don't know where to start looking, but I like trying so I'll get back if there's anything I really can't find!
By the way, how do you apply the tinfoil protection when you don't have a hat?

You only need that if you are as paranoid as Alien Loveshade - in which case ask them!! See an answer to every question!! DOn't be shy ask away. I've been having connection problems recently but hopefully they've died down.

Kiah, androyd and other Earthlings and Aliens,
How do you use tinfoil to protect your mind from hostile thought controlling brainwaves when you don't have a hat? Use one of the following simple methods:
1. Mold the foil to your head. Make sure you cover the entire skull area. Special note to slugites from planet Guls: cover the top portion of your pseudopod and cough a lot. It messes up the signal.
2. If you live on a planet/in an area with high winds, method 1 may not keep the foil on your head/pseudopod. In this case, simply follow method 1, but then insert several securing staples through the foil and into your skull. Note: this method is not recommended for certain species, such as Homo sapiens, who should see method 3.
3. Follow method 1, but then secure the foil with a towel wrapped around your head and tied under your chin.
4. Move into a foil or aluminum building and never go outside.
5. Buy a hat.

You need to go over to the admissions desk and propose a faculty, perhaps sketch out some ideas for proposed entries on a page and give them the reference. I know the 'powers that be' are keen to encourage more guide entries and the university is a good way in. I don't know personally about it, but the admissions office will be able to answer any questions. Hope this helps.

In regards to "buying" vs. "wearing" a hat; the respondent did not possess a hat, which means that he/she/it/they (or simply e) needs to acquire one by some method first. Buying is the most common legal way of doing so. Obviously, borrowing, begging and stealing are other methods of varying legality. Once the hat is possessed, it can be worn. Assuming it fits....

androyd Posted Jul 9, 2000
but since the post was about how to protect yourself, simply buying the hat wouldn't achieve that would it?

I just went through a great deal of trouble and expense to faciliate a null space/nexus transfer that....never mind. Went through a great deal of trouble to read messages here, even though I'm currently 4.3 light years away and have no real Internet connection, only to find that this discussion has dropped from preventing hostile methods of mind manipulation to an argument on linguistic dynamics. Let's end the pseudo-English debate here and get on with the real issue. Get the tinfoil by whatever method, get a hat any way you can, stick the tin foil on your head, put the hat over the tinfoil. Done.

Hey, I was pleased to see that h2g2 is so organized as to send assistants out to help newcomers! A very nice touch indeed. While I'm still just beginning to grasp what things are all about here, the question I have is this: how do I change my blasted name?! While being a number is really very personal, I think a name might make me feel better. Help if you can please!

androyd Posted Jul 31, 2000
If you click on preferences you will have the opportunity to change your knickname and also your 'skin'. Try classic goo to see the best pages as they are meant to be seen. Hope this helps.

I recently had a submittion change from "submitted" to "recommended", does this mean I have to keep waiting for longer, or does it mean 'they' think I should modify it?
Androyds helpdesk
androyd Posted Aug 7, 2000
It means that it has been read by one or more 'scouts' who have then passed it on to the editiorial team for final approval. So yes, more waiting but not any changes. I shall read the article for myself now.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I must say I'm honored to meet an Ace, a G.A.S., and a brain electrician to boot (no pun intended)! (-:
I've looked over the FAQs for using GuideML, in the hopes of transporting some of the graphics h2g2 has to offer to my personal space. So far, no good.
Could it be due to my trying this through Webtv? Could it be my neurology?
Any tips and pointers would be ever so appreciated. Thanks!
