I can be right, or I can be popular

I can't be both. (What is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right - who really said that?)
I am at least trying not to be 'right' when I wasn't asked. It's hard. I find it works best if I type my reply correcting someone who has said something wrong, be impressed with myself how right I am, then just delete it.
Of course, if someone *asks* me, then I am unable to help myself.

has something happened?
As I used to say when I wasn in the Army: I'm not here to be liked, I'm here to do a job.

Nothing's happened, it's just I've noticed myself thinking 'what the hell is that going to achieve??' when typing something like 'actually fireworks are allowed until 12 on certain nights of the year'.
Maybe I've grown up!?
I used to not care if I were 'popular' or liked, but I seem to have a lot of friends at the moment, and for once I'd like to not cock that up.
