If a door is wide shut is it shut or open ?

a guy turns out his light has a piece of toast and goes 2 bed. when he wakes up he hears over the radio that 200 people have died he knows he has caused this. how ?

a woman lives on the sixth floor of a flat. every morning she gets in the lift goes to the bottom floor and walks to her work. in the evening when she arrives home she gets the lift up 2 the 3rd floor gets out and walks up three flights of stairs to the 6th floor. why ?

The woman is too short to reach the 6th floor button. She can only reach 1, 2, & 3.

A variation involves her going straight to the top when it's raining (she has her umbrella then).

Regarding #1: The door is shut. Trust me.

#2 the guy lives in a lighthouse and when he turns out the light a ship crashes into the rocks !
How do u know the door is shut ? what about if your eyes were wide shut would they be open or closed ?

According to the rules of the english language, we can drop it with no significant loss in clarity.
The new phrase is: The door is shut.
Q.E.D.

(Plus, wide shut is an oxymoron anyway.)

Sorry, but you asked me at a bad time. I heard this one only a few days ago. A few more days and I'd have forgotten the answer.

The guy was on the phone with a friend, telling him how big a fish was that he caught. He was so wrapped up in his story that he forgot his friend couldn't see him, and motioned with his arms how big it was. He broke the glass sides of the phone booth by extending his hands, and the broken glass slit his wrists.

I must admit, however, that I never would have gotten it if I didn't already know the answer. Can't think of any more at the moment...
