As stated in message my dad was also a man of kent born in Maidstone, east side of Medway, near the prison. He was born in 1924 and died in 2004 aged 80. He was nephew of Happy Tom Parker, musician and comedian also born in Maidstone and a Man of Kent.

If he did he never mentioned it. His most historic moment was going in with the Royal Engineers, in the first wave, on Gold Beach, Normandy, 6th June 1944. He was really proud of that and was editor of both the local and national newsletters of the Normandy Veterans Association. His regiment was the Buffs and he was seconded to the Royal Engineers as he was always handy. He could turn his hand to anything.
